For those of you who don't know me or don't know me yet! I am the owner and leader planner here at Day of Diva Planning & Coordination. I thought I would take the time to share a little bit more of my story and how Day of Diva came to be. So, let's jump right in!
Rewind to 19 year old Amanda, working full time in Oil & Gas. Fresh out of school for Petroleum Land Admin and looking forward to having a "big girl job." Fast forward a few years and I was craving something more. I knew I wasn't meant to sit at a desk and push papers for the rest of my life. So I started taking Event Management courses in the evenings at MRU.
At the time, I didn't even realize an Event Planner was a career path. But after looking into it a bit more, I realized this might be the perfect thing for me!! From a young age, I had always been entertaining. I got it from my mom who would host amazing dinner parties with fun welcome drinks and cute appies!! And of course, I was her little helper :) Into my late teens I was planning parties for my friends with fun theme's and cute decorations as well!!
While taking my course at MRU, I starting to seriously consider making this a career path. However, I wanted a little bit more background before diving in. I told my parents, I am quitting my job and going back to school full time. I knew for the first time in my life, the exact career I wanted!! I enrolled in Business Administration at SAIT and majored in Management.
Once completing my program, I was eager to gain some real event experience! My first job was at a golf course just outside of Calgary as an event coordinator where I ran multiple tournaments, dinners, events and one wedding. I learned a lot about planning, coordinating and organizing large scale events. After the wedding we hosted at the end of the season I started to recognize my love for being involved in a couples most important day of their lives!!
After one season there I was off to another golf course, where I coordinated 14 weddings in one golf season. I have never worked that hard in my life, nor have a learned so much from a job. I had an amazing manager/mentor that gave me the push I needed to realize this is what I love!!!! Immediately after the season came to a close, I knew I had to start something of my own so I could keep doing weddings.
Day of Diva was born and I have never had more passion for anything in my life since launching my business. I tell people that I know this is my path because I can and will spend hours and hours working on my business or in my business and not get bored. It is something that has become such a huge part of my life and my identity. I am so grateful to have found my passion at a young age and be able to share it with the world.
